This report focuses on the reasons these individuals left ICE detention. Sometimes this report speaks of these individuals as those "exiting" ICE detention, or simply as "exits." The others remained in ICE detention but were transferred from the His House Children's Home to other facilities. During the last 31 years, His House has remained steadfast in caring for the most vulnerable children in South Florida. We are dedicated to restoring the lives of children and families, providing wrap-around services in a family environment where children can find healing and restored hope for a brighter future. We can also look at how quickly they arrived at this facility after they were first detained.
Their relentless dedication does not go unnoticed and this recognition is for all who played a vital role in the children’s success. MEET OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM
For over 31 years, His House has brought stability to the lives of over 20,000 children and remains a frontline provider of residential and foster care services. The organization is licensed by the Department of Children and Families, contracted by Citrus Family Network in Miami Dade and Monroe, and ChildNet in Broward County as a Residential program and child placement agency. His House Children’s Home is a non-profit, faith-based organization focused on restoring the lives of children and families. Our staff and volunteers make up a vital role in positively impacting the lives of children in our community that are in great need of loving, caring and committed individuals. Those individuals who departed from this facility because they were leaving ICE detention made up 97 percent of the 780 detainees housed at this facility during the last 12 months.
This means that 19 percent of the locations contributed the same or a larger numbers of exits, while 81 percent had a smaller number. We are thankful and feel very blessed to be able to count on the support of dedicated foster families who care for children as an extension of our Ministry. On a daily basis, we have the responsibility to care for children who arrive at His House having lived through heart-wrenching experiences. Yet, through your faithful support, we continue to offer a safe and nurturing environment they can call HOME. 85% of His House’s total operating expenses were used for programs that benefit children and families in need, 10% for Management and 5% were used for the fundraising. Last year in the United States, individuals from Mexico comprised the largest number of those leaving ICE detention.

For the United States as a whole, last year the average number of ICE facilities detainees moved through was 1.8. His House is run by a religious organization and began taking in immigrant children in 2014. Stability for foster youth is more challenging during a pandemic. Children in foster care are particularly vulnerable to the negative health and social impacts of the coronavirus. The facility's percentages fell within 3 percentage points of the national figures for all other categories.

In many respects release reasons for the His House Children's Home departed from the national picture. No one left because they were deported from this facility, while for the U.S. as a whole 55 percent left for this reason. No one left as a voluntary departure from this facility, while this was true for 1 percent of all individuals nationally. The His House Children's Home was one of 637 facilities nationwide that housed ICE detainees during the most recent 12 month period. Of these 637, there were 358 that had at least 10 individuals who were deported or released. Excluding those facilities with fewer than 10 exits, the His House Children's Home last year ranked in the top 19 percent nationwide in the number of individuals leaving ICE detention.
His House Children’s Home is a private, faith-based non-profit organization dedicated to restoring joy to the lives of children from newborn to 21 years of age. Since it was established in 1989, His House has been offering safe, caring homes to abused, abandoned and neglected children in South Florida. The organization is a frontline provider of residential services for children. Recognized and accredited by the national Council on Accreditation , its model is unlike many other residential programs. Each home is staffed nurturing caregivers who make every effort to create a beautiful, cozy safe haven where children feel safe and loved. Over the past 25 years, His House has restored joy to the lives of more than 9,000 children.
However, we can examine whether the His House Children's Home was the first ICE facility in which these detainees were held. According to ICE records, for a few of these detainees, the His House Children's Home was the first place they were sent when they were detained by ICE. The remaining 93 percent had been transferred in from another ICE detention facility. Nationally, there were 65 individuals who escaped ICE detention during the latest 12 month period for which data are available, and 6 individuals were recorded as having died in detention. No one was recorded as dying last year at the His House Children's Home, but there was one escape. His House Children's Home was founded by Jean Caceres-Gonzalez. The shelter is located in Miami Gardens, Florida and is made up of a series of buildings which are fenced in.
A total of 17 percent arrived at the His House Children's Home at some point during the very first day they were detained by ICE. There was considerable variability among detainees in the number of detention facilities they had been held in before they were finally deported or released from this facility. The number of facilities ranged as high as 4 separate locations for some detainees. These figures again are based on an analysis of the most recent 12 months for which data are available.
Children need a safe, loving place to call home during the turbulent times in their lives. His House is a healing place that gives wounded children not only that home, but renewed hope for a brighter future.
